Traffic Pattern Update at Lomond Elementary School

Traffic Pattern Update at Lomond Elementary School

This year, there are several important updates to the traffic pattern at Lomond during pick-up and drop-off times. As you know, the traffic surrounding the school during these peak hours is cumbersome to navigate. In order to ensure safety for all students, staff and parents, the District and school leadership team collaborated with the Shaker Heights Police Department (SHPD) to come up with a revised traffic flow for the 2026-2027 school year. This new pattern will be in effect on school days from 7:20-8:20 a.m. and 2:35-3:35 p.m., the peak hours for pick-up and drop-off.

During these hours, Lomond Boulevard will be one-way westbound from Strandhill to Palmerston to prevent cars from blocking intersections. Palmerston Road will remain one-way northbound and Strandhill Road will remain one-way southbound during pick-up and drop-off hours.

There will be two designated drop-off/pick-up areas for students arriving/being picked up by car:

  • The front entrance of the school on Lomond Boulevard between Strandhill and Palmerston
  • Near the Learning Garden on Strandhill Road (on the east side of the school)

Motorists should also note these additional changes during the designated times:

  • No right turn from Lomond Boulevard westbound onto Strandhill northbound.
  • No right turn from Strandhill southbound to Lomond Boulevard westbound.
  • No left turn from Strandhill northbound onto Lomond Boulevard westbound.
  • No right turn from Palmerston northbound onto Lomond Boulevard eastbound.
  • The gate to the staff-only parking lot on Strandhill will be closed.

Families are asked to drop off/pick up their children and continue down the road. No parking is permitted on Lomond, Palmerston or Strandhill. Please ensure that students only exit the car from the passenger side, do not walk through traffic or cross intersections alone.

SHPD will be on site for the first week of school to assist with implementing the new traffic pattern. Officers are training the Lomond crossing guards so they are aware of the changes. We are confident that the new traffic pattern will keep our students, families and staff safe.
